Opening Sentence: Pentecost
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:2
Confession
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.
Invitatory
Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim
your praise.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Alleluia. The Lord has shown forth his glory: Come let us adore him. Alleluia.
Venite Psalm 95:1-7
Come let us sing to the Lord; *
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
*
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God, *
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth, *
and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it, *
and his hands have molded the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, *
and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
*
Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

Old Testament Lesson
2 Kings 20:1-21 (NRSV)
1 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was
at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to
him, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD:Set your house
in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover." 2 Then
Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD:3
"Remember now, O LORD, I implore you, how I have walked before
you in faithfulness with a whole heart, and have done what is
good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 Before Isaiah
had gone out of the middle court, the word of the LORD came to
him:5 "Turn back, and say to Hezekiah prince of my people,
Thus says the LORD, the God of your ancestor David:I have heard
your prayer, I have seen your tears; indeed, I will heal you;
on the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD. 6 I
will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this
city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; I will defend this
city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake." 7
Then Isaiah said, "Bring a lump of figs. Let them take it
and apply it to the boil, so that he may recover."
8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What shall be the sign that the
LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the
LORD on the third day?" 9 Isaiah said, "This is the
sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that
he has promised:the shadow has now advanced ten intervals; shall
it retreat ten intervals?" 10 Hezekiah answered, "It
is normal for the shadow to lengthen ten intervals; rather let
the shadow retreat ten intervals." 11 The prophet Isaiah
cried to the LORD; and he brought the shadow back the ten intervals,
by which the sun had declined on the dial of Ahaz. 12 At that
time King Merodach-baladan son of Baladan of Babylon sent envoys
with letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he had heard that
Hezekiah had been sick. 13 Hezekiah welcomed them; he showed
them all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices,
the precious oil, his armory, all that was found in his storehouses;
there was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah
did not show them. 14 Then the prophet Isaiah came to King Hezekiah,
and said to him, "What did these men say? From where did
they come to you?" Hezekiah answered, "They have come
from a far country, from Babylon." 15 He said, "What
have they seen in your house?" Hezekiah answered, "They
have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing in my storehouses
that I did not show them."
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD:
17 Days are coming when all that is in your house, and that which
your ancestors have stored up until this day, shall be carried
to Babylon; nothing shall be left, says the LORD. 18 Some of your
own sons who are born to you shall be taken away; they shall be
eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon." 19 Then Hezekiah
said to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD that you have spoken
is good." For he thought, "Why not, if there will be
peace and security in my days?" 20 The rest of the deeds
of Hezekiah, all his power, how he made the pool and the conduit
and brought water into the city, are they not written in the Book
of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?21 Hezekiah slept with his
ancestors; and his son Manasseh succeeded him.

Canticle 16 The Song of Zechariah
Luke 1:68-79
Blessed be the Lord, the God
of Israel;*
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty
savior,*
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he would save us from our
enemies,*
from the hands of all who hate us.
he promised to show mercy to
our fathers*
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to
our father Abraham,*
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear,*
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called
the prophet of the Most High,*
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge
of salvation*
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our
God*
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in
darkness and the shadow of death,*
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory
to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
New Testament Lesson
Acts 12:1-17 (NRSV)
1 About that time King Herod laid violent hands
upon some who belonged to the church. 2 He had James, the brother
of John, killed with the sword. 3 After he saw that it pleased
the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. (This was during
the festival of Unleavened Bread.) 4 When he had seized him,
he put him in prison and handed him over to four squads of soldiers
to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the
Passover. 5 While Peter was kept in prison, the church prayed
fervently to God for him. 6 The very night before Herod was going
to bring him out, Peter, bound with two chains, was sleeping between
two soldiers, while guards in front of the door were keeping watch
over the prison. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and
a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and woke
him, saying, "Get up quickly." And the chains fell off
his wrists. 8 The angel said to him, "Fasten your belt and
put on your sandals." He did so. Then he said to him, "Wrap
your cloak around you and follow me." 9 Peter went out
and followed him; he did not realize that what was happening with
the angel's help was real; he thought he was seeing a vision.
10 After they had passed the first and the second guard, they
came before the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for
them of its own accord, and they went outside and walked along
a lane, when suddenly the angel left him. 11 Then Peter came
to himself and said, "Now I am sure that the Lord has sent
his angel and rescued me from the hands of Herod and from all
that the Jewish people were expecting."
12 As soon as he realized this, he went to the house of Mary,
the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many had gathered
and were praying. 13 When he knocked at the outer gate, a maid
named Rhoda came to answer. 14 On recognizing Peter's voice,
she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the gate, she ran
in and announced that Peter was standing at the gate. 15 They
said to her, "You are out of your mind!" But she insisted
that it was so. They said, "It is his angel." 16 Meanwhile
Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the gate, they
saw him and were amazed. 17 He motioned to them with his hand
to be silent, and described for them how the Lord had brought
him out of the prison. And he added, "Tell this to James
and to the believers." Then he left and went to another
place.

Gospel
Luke 7:11-17 (NRSV)
11 Soon afterwards he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him. 12 As he approached the gate of the town, a man who had died was being carried out. He was his mother's only son, and she was a widow; and with her was a large crowd from the town. 13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, "Do not weep." 14 Then he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, rise!" 15 The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. 16 Fear seized all of them; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has risen among us!" and "God has looked favorably on his people!" 17 This word about him spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding country.

Te Deum laudamus
You are God: we praise you;
You are the Lord; we acclaim you;
You are the eternal Father:
All creation worships you.

Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:

The glorious company of apostles praise you.
The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
The white-robed army of martyrs praise you.
Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you;
Father, of majesty unbounded,
your true and only Son, worthy of all worship,
and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
You, Christ, are the king of glory,
the eternal Son of the Father.
When you became man to set us free
you did not shun the Virgin's womb.
You overcame the sting of death
and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
You are seated at God's right hand in glory.
We believe that you will come and be our judge.
Come then, Lord, and help your people,
bought with the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints
to glory everlasting.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his
only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,

the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass
against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Suffrages A
Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your salvation.
Clothe your ministers with righteousness;
Let your people sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safety.
Lord, keep this nation under your care;
And guide us in the way of justice and truth.
Let your way be known upon earth;
Your saving health among all nations.
Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.
Create in us clean hearts, O God;
And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.
Collect of the Day: Pentecost, proper 22
Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
A Collect for Sundays
O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
For Mission
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The National Association of Congregational Christian Churches
For the Church
Gracious Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth, in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in any thing it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Savior. Amen.
For Church Musicians and Artists
O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven: Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Families
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who places solitary persons in families: We commend to your continual care the homes in which your people dwell. Put far from them, we beseech you, every root of bitterness, the desire of vainglory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, and godliness. Knit together in constant affection those who, in marriage, have been made one flesh. Turn the hearts of the parents to the children, and the hearts of the children to the parents; and so enkindle fervent charity among us all, that we may evermore be kindly one to another; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.A Prayer Attributed to St. Francis
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.A Prayer of St. Chrysostom
Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.
