Fixes for Apple Devices (iPhone, iPad)

If the Daily Office app stops working or you can't hear the hymns, here are the solutions we've found so far.

Best: Place a Shortcut to The Mission of St. Clare Website on Your Home Screen

This is the best solution: Apple updates rarely impact this solution.

Add an icon (shortcut) for The Mission of St. Clare website to your home screen.

On an iPad:
1. Open Safari.
2. Go to http://www.missionstclare.com/english/index.html
3. Tap the Share icon (square with upward pointing arrow).
4. Tap "Add to Home Screen."
5. When the "Add to Home" menu appears, tap "Add" in the upper right corner.
The icon for this website location now appears on your home screen.

For iPhones, instructions are at: https://www.kook.com.au/how-to-add-icons-to-your-iphones-home-screen/

When you tap the icon, the website appears. Now, tap the image at the top of the website: the current Office will appear.

Going to The Mission of St. Clare website also gives you access to future calendars, Noonday Prayer and Compline, and other resources.

Other: Reinstall the App

If you have ever had the Daily Office app installed, but can't hear music now or the app fails to start, just reinstall the app. Go to https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mission-st.-clare/id445186741?mt=8

If the app won't reinstall, go to the Apple Computer support page: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4844460?tstart=0

iOS10 Problems

iOS10 caused many apps to stop working.

Since the original release of iOS10, Apple has issued two updates. Be sure to install these updates.

Updates to the Daily Office App: Why They Don't Happen Often

Developing an iPad/iPhone app is not only about the programming (we don't do this programming ourselves: we hire a programmer), we also must pay an annual developer's fee to Apple Computers, then finally wait while Apple reviews the app and decides whether it meets Apple's standards. Information is here: https://developer.apple.com/support/app-store/

Developing an Android app also requires a programmer (who we must hire, although the current app was written by a volunteer), then sending the app to app markets. Google Play requires a small developer's fee from us; the Amazon App Market is free.

So time and money are the enemies of updates. Which doesn't mean there won't be any updates, but not many of them.

The Daily Office in Audio

The Daily Office in audio originates at The Episcopal Church in Garret County, Maryland. If their podcast is not up-to-date, please contact them at: http://www.episcopalchurchingarrettcounty.org/?page_id=30

As of October 1, 2016, the audio was up-to-date.

Thank you for your understanding about all these matters.
