Archippus
On this day we celebrate the memory of Archippus.
Archippus was one of apostle Paul's disciples, by whom he was
praised and was called his fellow soldier in
Paul's epistle to Philemon. In the epistle to the Colossians,
Paul also wrote about Archippus, saying: "Say to Archippus,
Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord,
that thou fulfil it" (Col. 4:17).
So, Archippus was in Colosse (which is a Frygian city) and was
preaching the Gospel together with Philemon, when the city's idolaters
rushed at them, caught apostle Archippus and brought him to governor
Androcles. However, he would not sacrifice to the idol called
Menas. So, Archippus was executed.
