Mission of St. Clare logo The Martyrs of Arcadios 22 February

On this day we celebrate the memory of the holy martyrs and apostles who were killed at Eugenios' place when Arcadios was king.

When most holy Patriarch Thomas was on the throne of Constantinople in 395, the holy relics of some holy martyrs were found hidden in the earth. Patriarch Thomas together with a lot of help from the people immediately removed the relics piously and reverently. Then various diseases were cured. When many years had passed, God revealed to a calligrapher priest that at that same Eugenios' place remained hidden the holy relics of Andronicus and Junia, who are mentioned by the Apostle Paul in his epistle to the Romans where he says: "Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me" (Romans 16:7).

Prayer

Almighty God, by whose grace and power your holy martyrs triumphed over suffering and was faithful even to death: Grant us, who now remember him in thanksgiving, to be so faithful in our witness to you in this world, that we may receive with him the crown of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
