The Venerable Abbas killed in St. Savva's Monastery

On this day we celebrate the memory of the venerable Abbas, i.e. the fathers, who were killed by the barbarians in St. Savva's monastery. These venerable Abbas had gathered from various places and led a quiet and virtuous life of hardship and exercise in St. Savva's monastery, doing the work of God.

But the envious devil, who hates good and envies virtuous men, moved the atheist Ethiopians against these saints. These people went to St. Savva's monastery hoping that they would find money and treasures. When they searched it and found no money, in spite of their hopes, the cruel men poured their anger on the holy fathers who lived there.
