Martyrdom of St. Matrounah

On this day we commemorate the martyrdom of St. Matrounah who was a maid-servant. She was of Christian parents and her mistress used to entice her to depart from the Christian religion but she refused and her mistress used to humiliate and overburden her with servitude.

One day she accompanied her mistress then went to the Christian church. Her mistress was enraged, beat her harshly and imprisoned her in a dark place for four days without food or drink. She then took her out and beat her severely again and returned her to her imprisonment where she died.

Her mistress took her body and threw it down from the top of her building so it would appear that she had fallen from the roof by mistake.
