| Lo! God comes, with clouds descending |
Lo! God comes, with clouds descending,
once for our salvation slain;
thousand thousand saints attending
swell the triumph of his train:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Christ our God returns to reign.Every eye shall now behold Christ,
robed in dreadful majesty;
those who set at nought and sold Christ,
pierced, and nailed Christ to the tree,
deeply wailing, deeply wailing,
shall the true Messiah see.Those dear tokens of Christ's passion
still Christ's dazzling body bears,
cause of endless exultation
to Christ's ransomed worshipers;
with what rapture, with what rapture
gaze we on those glorious scars!Yea, amen! let all adore you,
high on your eternal throne;
Savior, take the power and glory;
claim the kingdom for your own:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
God shalt reign, and God alone.Music: St. Thomas Charles Wesley (18th C)
Words: John Francis Wade (18th C)
